Dreams Do Come True
Well, time to chill a bit I think. It’s the weekend and summer is definitely in the air. How funny is our language…I’m chilling when the days are getting warmer.
So…ok, now I want to tell you some of the really really awesome stuff that you can achieve from a career in property management. Here’s something to help you with writing your goals.
All of my life I have dreamed of going to Disneyland…well der…who hasn’t? Yeah, I know, but with me it was something that use to burn inside of me. Every Sunday I would get dressed in my very best clothes to watch Walt Disney talk about the show that was about to come on and my little heart use to skip for joy when I saw Tinkerbelle sprinkle fairy dust and then the Magical Kingdom Castle would illuminate with the most beautiful display of fireworks.
Well that dream just grew and grew inside of me. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I actually made it to Disney World when I attended the NAR Conference in Orlando. My eldest son Josh was with me and when the day came to a close, Tinkerbelle flew across the sky and the castle lit up with the most beautiful fireworks. Josh, videoed me crying with joy as I made a promise that I would make sure that we provided opportunity for all children to experience the joy and magic of Disneyland.
I made a vow that day to Josh and to myself and it’s amazing that when you set goals, things start to happen. This year in February I was lucky enough to take my three grown children Josh 21, Jason, 20 and CJ (Cara) 18 to Disneyland. The joy and magic was again so overwhelming that I knew I had to keep believing and searching for the answer to making this possible for children everywhere.
In February, two days after returning from the States, I attended our own Harcourts conference, where they released details of a special leadership training course in August that was exclusively for our Company. I remember going home, feeling completely jet lagged, yet somehow knowing I just had to make this trip happen. I couldn’t afford it, I didn’t have the time, yet I knew, this opportunity was meant for me.
It was time to change my internal dialogue. I was going and nothing was going to stop me.
As you can see I went and it was truly life changing for me. I think because even as a little girl, I subconsciously set a goal, but of course I didn’t know it was a goal at the time. It was all in my imagination. It turned into a vision.
I learnt so much at that course. I had so much fun and I made the contacts I needed to start our foundation. Our foundation is to ‘Develop Leaders of the Future’ and celebrate youth.
What else did I learn? Well I learnt that it doesn’t matter how old you are, when something is magical you can see the delight and absolute happiness on everyone’s faces. I learnt about creating a ‘culture by design’ and the principles of true leadership, imagination and the power of a dream.
Since I came home, about four weeks ago, I haven’t stopped writing and creating. It has been a powerful experience for me and one that was made possible, not just by my goals, but by where my career in property management has taken me. Soon I will share with you my new beau…Mickey Mouse. I gotta say…it was love at first sight. Just ask my fellow graduates from ‘Team Disney 2007′
Is property management just a job for you or a true career path?

JO, again that was a great read, you really leave an impression and it makes you feel anything is possible if you set goals and go for it! Thanks!
