Hi Jo, I think this is great! Will be a great way of providing a forum for property managers to connect, ask questions and help each other. And it may even help enligthen the rest of us that give you property managers those strange looks!
Hi Jo, I think you are very funny and very cleaver. I agree with Mike what a fantastic forum for communication. I will be keeping posted.
I’ve been looking for a Blog for PM’s to voice their issues. I’ve worked in both a condo office and HOA. Also, been told “the BOD wants a male as their property manager”. I’m glad I found this place, nice to know there is someplace to come to either share information or vent. Thank you,LCAMPM
Hi Pat,
Thanks…yes we need a forum and I’m glad you found us.
Spread the word…the property management industry is in for some big changes and they are going to be awesome.
We’ve been far too complacent for far too long.
Ciao,
Jo
Jo, I have been looking for a job via the internet and I have noticed that most of the positions are for leasing consultants. Here in the USA – Florida, most positions are for leasing consultants due to the downturn of the housing market. I am a LCAM but guess I better start looking hard at being a leasing consultant if I want to work. Pat
Hi Pat,
I beleive it is best to diversify, continue training and gain further qualifications and skills. Real estate is a changing market and we need skills to ensure we can flow with the varying marketsand our evolving and very exciting industry.
Are you considering working in Australia or staying with the States?
Ciao,
Jo
Hi Jo, Think I will stay here in the USA. My kids are here and so are my 3 beautiful grandchildren. My husand and I would like to travel and perhaps it might be your part of the world.
I also found that most management firms here require 5+ years of experience. I have 1+ as an assistant property manager but at least 25+ in office administration (real estate areas). So guess where I’m headed back to – office work.
Hi Pat,
Well that is a very good reason to stay in the States, plus the States is fantastic and I absolutely love it there. I have just returned from the NAR Conference in Las Vegas and can’t wait to go back in January to NYC. There are a lot of opportunities in the States.
Administration skills are a vital skill in property management. You will continue to develop your skills in property management as there is so much to learn. It’s a great industry though.
Of course if you visit Australia, you will have to let me know. I would love to show you around and take you to a few agencies.
Have a fabulous week,
Jo
Jo, Thanks for the offer to show me around your hometown. I am having difficulties getting call backs. I was promised a callback this past Friday and no phone call. I really have to think hard about putting my license on hold and get an office job. I have the experience as an assistant property manager but that isn’t good enough from what I am seeing on job websites. I am think of emailing the person who was suppose to call me back Friday. Not sure if that is a good idea or not. Have a nice day, Pat
Hi Pat,
You’re welcome…the offer is genuine.
It is sad and frustrating when calls are not made when promised or returned. Why do people do that? Is it fear, is it poor time management or is it ignorance?
If it was me, I would certainly email them and just ask in a friendly manner if a decision has been made. You will need to make your plans.
Good luck and have a wonderful week,
Jo
PS: Let me know how you go.
Jo, I was going to email one very promising position but the business card did not have an email address on it. I was told you are more then qualified during the interview. Only thing that bothered me was I almost heard a “but” coming and it didn’t. Still bothers me that I missed something during the interview. I am going back into the health care industry because I can cross over to that area with my background. I am going to a Job Fair tomorrow in health care. I was very involved in that area at one time and have several certificates. I’m not a nurse or anything like that but can work areas in an assisted living or skilled nursing facility. That is where my skills really are. Thanks for your vote of confidence and the sharing of ideas. Pat
Hi Pat,
It is awkward when you feel you have missed something during an interview and you are left feeling perplexed and confused.
Unfortunately many who interview are not qualified or even prepared and therefore the experience is unpleasant for the interviewer and the interviewee. Part of our training is all about preparing for interviews and how to manage the process.
The more employers learn how to manage each and every aspect of their role, the better it will be for everyone.
All the best in the health industry and I do hope you continue to stay in touch and visit our blog and maybe in the future be a part of our wonderful industry.
Happy Holidays,
Jo
